Editing for Time

Editing for Time

The problem was I had a 35 second video which needed to be cut to 35. Though run-throughs timed at 30 seconds, takes actually ran 35 seconds. The first solution is shown below. Here software was used to speed the video. Since I am working digitally, speed will not affect pitch on the audio, and since the speed is not accelerated that much, motion does not appear to be affected.

The second solution which I chose was to cut each sentence and delete the slight pauses. This actually creates a faster tempo than doing the timestretching as above.

There is also the opposite case. Below I needed a long pan of a spring. Luckily it was a “quiet” spring with no falling leaves, birds, or flying insects in the shot. So, I was able to digitally stretch the shot into a longer and slower pan.
